Jabuticaba is the sweet fruit/berry found throughout South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, Brazil) of a Brazilian Jabuticaba native tree which unlike other fruits, grows on the trunk of the tree. Jabotica skin and flesh are both edible. However, wheareas the flesh is soft, fragrant and sweet, quite similar to Lychee, the skin has a sharp, acidic taste.
• Jabuticaba is about the size of a plum (round and Plump) resembling a big, dark-coloured grape.
• Ripe jabotica has skin (thicker, dark-purple, almost black), jelly-like flesh (glossy white or rose soft), while unripe ones are bright green in colour. Each fruit may have one up to four small seeds.
