Banana Bush is an evergreen perennial shrub or small tree growing from 1-14 metres (upto 46 ft) in height and a member of the apocynaceae family, having white fragrant windmill flowers occur in groups and are followed by pairs of orange fruit containing a mass of crimson flesh surrounding numerous fissured seeds.

• Its has white or pale yellow corolla lobes flowers, giving rise to orange fruit with red or yellow paired follicles, each up to 7 cm (2.8 in) in diameter.














Plant Description

The leaves are elliptic-lanceolate to oblong-elliptic, 5-12 cm long, narrowed at both ends, shining and short-stalked.

Inflorescences are axillary and terminal, peduncled, and have rather few flowers.
Calyx is green, ovoid, and short. Corolla is white, tinged with green, slender-tubed, 1.7 centimeters long and slightly enlarged upward.
Limb is 2-2.5 centimeters in diameter, composed of five (5), spreading, falcate, lanceolate lobes.
Follicles are red or yellowish-red, oblong, 2-4 cm long, and longitudinally ridged or keeled.

The Fruit is probably proteolytic (breaks down Proteins).
The root bark has been used for tropical Fever.
Aboriginals from Queensland rubbed the Fruit on sores to assist healing.
