Endometriosis

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a female disorder in which the inside lining (or the tissues on the inside) of the uterus are found to be implanted outside the uterus.

• Endometrial tissue may implant itself on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, pelvic ligaments, abdominal organs, old scars, and, in rare cases, the chest, lungs, Spinal cord, and extremities.

• Endometriosis is a notoriously difficult condition to diagnose, but hormonal factors are known to be important in causing it.

• Endometriosis is the presence of endometrial/uterine tissue (endometrium) outside the uterus (its usual location on the inner lining of the uterus).
• The misplaced uterine tissue responds to monthly hormonal cycles and wreaks havoc in many ways.
• It can spread outside the pelvic area, but it typically occurs on the outer surface of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and tissues that hold the uterus in place.
• Uterine tissue is not restricted to the uterus, but can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, in the abdominal cavity and in other places throughout the pelvic area.
• Its also a common cause of infertility (or endometrial cysts).

Endometriosis Diet

ResveratrolResveratrol is a plant-based nutrient mainly found in Grapes, Peanuts, and Mulberries, believed to treat Endometriosis by inhibiting aromatase (associated with estrogen activity) and COX-2 enzymes (associated with pain).

Omega-3 Fatty AcidsOmega-3 Fatty Acids found in fatty fish (such as Salmon Fish, Mackerel Fish, Sardines, and Anchovies) are beneficial to women with Endometriosis as they are converted in the body to Anti-Inflammatory prostaglandins and suppress the production of inflammatory prostaglandins derived from saturated fats in Dairy and Red Meat. An increased intake of Omega-3 Fatty Acids (most specifically eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA]) found in fish oil can alter the balance of prostaglandins and alleviate many of the inflammatory symptoms of Endometriosis.?? A high ratio of Omega-3 to omega-6 fats may help reduce inflammation on Endometriosis-like lesions.

Progesterone Cream – Progesterone cream inhibits the proliferation of endometrial cells and the development of blood vessels (angiogenesis) that feed the uterine growth. The endometrial overgrowth may be significantly reduced along with the accompanying pain by inhibiting the processes.?? Diosgenin (a plant-based Steroid derived from either Soybean or Mexican Wild Yam is converted to a bio-equivalent form of progesterone). Progesterone cream can be applied to the wrists, inner arms, inner thighs, or upper chest at a dose recommended by the doctor as its important that the treatment to be medically supervised because too much progesterone can cause mood changes, Depression, Water retention, weight gain, and abnormal Menstrual bleeding.

Low-Fat Diet – Long-term exposure to environmental chemicals called dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) may increase the risk and severity of Endometriosis.?? One way to reduce the intake of these toxins is to cut back on saturated fats, especially high-fat Dairy and Red Meat. Dioxin and PCBs both accumulate in animal-based fats, which can readily be passed to humans in foods. Red Meat is an independent risk factor for Endometriosis, while an increase in consumption of fresh fruit and Vegetables is associated with a decreased risk.??

Isoflavones – Dysregulation of estrogen (a female Hormone that regulates the normal growth of the endometrium) may contribute to the development of Endometriosis, but Isoflavones (a group of plant-based chemicals) may help reduce the symptoms of Endometriosis by inhibiting aromatase (an enzyme that converts androgens [male Hormones] to estrogens).?? Good food sources of Isoflavones include Celery, Parsley, Soybean, Chickpeas, Fava Beans, Pistachios, and Peanuts.

Indoles – An organic compound found in Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Kale, Brussels Sprouts, and Bok Choy have mild anti-estrogen effects that may be beneficial to women with Endometriosis.??

Reduce intake of trans fats – It increases the risk of Endometriosis.

Increase intake of anti-oxidants – It can reduce chronic Endometriosis-related pelvic pain.

Take an Anti-Inflammatory diet – It can help reduce the symptoms of Endometriosis.

Avoid sugar and processed foods.
