Babul is a tree growing to 65 ft (20 m) with hard, rust-brown bark and feathery leaves. Small, bright yellow flower heads produce pods upto 6 in (15 cm) long, native to North Africa.









Australian wattle (Acacia decurrens) native to Australia, is used in much the same way as Babul.
Black Catechu (Acacia catechu).

Directions of Preparation

For High Blood Pressure

• Consume 2g seeds with warm water twice (2) a day.

For Anemia

• Take one (1) tablespoon each of Babul Gum, Basil and Purslane. Fry in some Olive Oil for 10 minutes. Now soak it in one (1) cup Rose water. Take one (1) tablespoon thRice (3) a day.

For bed wetting

• Take dry pods and fry in oil, then take 4-5 grams with hot Milk twice (2) a day.
• Fry one (1) tablespoon Coriander seeds till brown. Grind it with tablespoon each of Pomegranate flowers, Sesame Seeds and Babul Gum. Make a fine powder and add brown sugar in equal quantity. Take one (1) tablespoon at bedtime.

For Diabetes

• Chew some of its Gum.

For Conjunctivitis

• Make a paste of the leaves with water. Fold it in a clean cloth and put it over the closed Eyes at bedtime.

For Eye diseases

• Make its leave paste and tie it in a piece of cloth, then use as a poultice.

For Anti-Microbial

• Extract juice from the stem and take one (1) teaspoon of it daily.

For anti-mutagenic
• Take a 1/4 tsp flower extract once a day.

For dysentery

• It bears anti-dysenteric property (useful to prevent or curbs dysentery/bloody dysentery. Put a tablespoon of crushed roots in a glass of water. Leave it overnight. Next morning, strain and drink frequently.

For Diarrhea

• Make a decoction of the Gum and have 10 ml of it once a day.
or
• Mix 1/4 tablespoon powdered Gum of Babul in some water. soak some leaves in water for 1 hour. Take the infusion with small quantity of black Cumin.
• Boil one (1) cup Babul bark in one (1) litre water and sieve it. Add powdered indian pennywort in it. Also add the powder of 4 black Peppercorns, 2 Cardamom, Cinnamon, 2 Cloves, 1/4 Nutmeg and 1/2 tablespoon Long Pepper. Mix it and leave it for a month before it is taken for medicinal use. Take one tablespoon twice a day.

For spermatorrhea

• Dry the seedless pods in shade and grind. Mix equal quantity of palm sugar and store. Take 1/2 tablespoon with one (1) glass of Milk at night.
or
• Take equal quantities of Babul Gum and chebulic myrobalan. Grind. Take 1/2 tablespoon with 1 tablespoon of Raw Honey for ten (10) days.

For premature ejaculation

• Take fresh pods/Fruit daily to provide strength to the male Reproductive organs.

For sore throat

• Chew a small portion of the Gum or Boil one (1) tablespoon of crushed bark in a glass of water, add some rocksalt and gargle.

For Gum diseases

• Chew a piece of bark daily or prepare a decoction by boiling one (1) tablespoon tender leaves in 2 cups of water and gargle.
• Take some water in an earthenware container. soak some crushed bark in it for few hours and gargle.
• Use the powdered bark as tooth powder.
or
• Grind one (1) cup each of the bark of Babul and Neem. Add one (1) tablespoon each of powdered Cubeb, Long Pepper and rock salt. Use after every meal as a tooth powder.

For Tonsillitis

• Prepare a decoction of its bark. Add 2g salt in one (1) cup of the decoction. Gargle 2-3 times a day.

For Gingivitis (Periodontitis)

• Take a small piece of its fresh bark, wash and chew it twice (2) a day.

For dental diseases

• Cut its stem in small pieces and chew one (1) piece daily in the morning.

For Sexual Impotence

• Chew some Gum.

For sexual disorders

• Fry 1/4 tablespoon powdered Gum in one (1) tablespoon ghee and take it daily with (1) glass Milk.

For sexual debility

• Its pods cure sexual debility (in men) and all its symptoms (premature ejaculation, spermatorrhea, watery semen, nocturnal emission).
• Dry the seedless pods in the shade, then powder them. Add an equal weight of brown sugar to the powder and mix well. Take 4-6 grams of the mixture with warm Milk in the morning.
• The fresh pods are used to treat sexual debility. It strengthen the both male and female Reproductive organs.

For Cough

• It has Expectorant effect (expels out the phlegm and relieves chest troubles). Take 1/4 tablespoon leaves paste with one (1) tablespoon of Raw Honey and warm water or chew the Gum to cures Cough.

For dryness

• Chew a small portion of the Gum.

For Wounds

• Grind the tender leaves and apply (or dust the powdered bark) or Boil the crushed bark in water and wash off Wounds with it.

For Burns

• Make and apply a paste of Babul Gum, Turmeric powder and Coconut Oil.

For Eczema

• Boil 3 tablespoon Babul powdered bark and Mango in 4 cups of water. Foment the affected area with the vapours and anoint with clarified Butter.

For Leucorrhoea

• A decoction of bark is used as a vaginal shower.

For loose vagina

• Make a decoction from fresh pods and wash the vagina with the decoction. It is helpful in tightening the loose vaginal muscles after delivery.
